We were visiting family this past week. We had a wonderful time, visiting, laughing lots and playing cards together.
One evening, as we were playing cards, we were swarmed by dozens and dozens of flies. Our hostess was of course, mortified but we reassured her that this tremendous amount of flies had to have been from a hatch somewhere in their house. (I can't blame her, I was embarrassed when we had ants, even though it was no fault of ours.)
We swatted and swatted and swatted (kind of fun, but no where near effective enough to eradicate them all). Below is a picture of the growing fly graveyard on the carpet.
How I wish I could say those were watermelon seeds!
Then someone noticed a large number of flies congregating on a mobile up above our heads. Harvey devised a plan to "take out" this fly convention. Below is the (very homemade) video of the "execution":
The plan worked . . . only a few escaped. But, there was still a large amount swarming around, and we knew that more drastic measures were going to be needed to finish the job.
The next evening we went out to dinner, but not before fly/mosquito spray was applied so it could gas out the pests while we were away.
It worked! Well, for the flies anyway, because while we continued to play cards that evening, unbeknownst to me, mosquitos were busily munching away on my feet and ankles. I must have sweet blood or something, because I think I got around 8 bites or so. I HATE those things!
But . . . at least the swarming insects the night before weren't mosquitos. I believe I would have excused myself to another abode had that been the case. As it is, my feet feel like they're on fire!
