There are hazards, of course. While working in the flower beds it's not at all unusual to have a ball come crashing through the branches of the evergreens and plowed itself into the dirt not a yard or two away. Our house has pretty much remained unscathed . . . only a few have collided (noisily) into the siding or roof. One extra talented golfer actually hit one OVER our house. (We found it in the street gutter.)
Other than the less-than-skilled golfers that wing balls onto our property, my only other complaint about these "golfer guys" is that they're not supposed to come into our yard to retrieve their golf balls. Most honor that rule, but we've had a few . . . one guy came clear across our yard next to the house, not only picking up his ball, but every other ball that we hadn't gathered yet. Usually I don't say anything, but that frosted me. I leaned out my window and asked him to not cross our flower beds again, because sometimes I spray weeds and he would be tracking that spray clear across my lawn. He didn't turn around to look at me, but just raised his arm and said, "Ok." GRRRR.
Several weeks ago, Harvey and Chloe sorted through the balls, categorizing them by name and packaging them in ziploc bags of three. Every chance Chloe gets she comes over and sets up a table on the edge of our property next to the golf course and sells the used balls to the golfers--probably the very ones that hit them there in the first place! Fifty cents each or three for a dollar. Pretty good deal, especially for Chloe!
And my goodness, how can you resist these two smiling faces? Come on, golfer guys, ante up!
