Candy Corn Season!

I'm not sure where or when the obsession happened, but there's a few in our family who anticipate October because of the yummy, nummy candy corn that shows up on the Halloween shelves in the stores. There's usually a few cell phone texts between three of us . . . whoever finds the candy corn first.

I thought if I was going to blog about candy corn, I'd better do some internet research first:

Candy Corn Quick Facts

•Candy corn has 3.57 calories per kernel (Yay!)
•Halloween accounts for 75% of the annual candy corn production
•Candy corn isn't just for Halloween there is also:
•Reindeer corn for Christmas (red, green, and white)
(Meh. Don't mess with perfection.)
•Indian corn (it's chocolate and vanilla flavored) (This one's acceptable.)
•Cupid corn for Valentine's Day (red, pink, and white)
(Meh. Again, don't mess with perfection.)
•Bunny corn for Easter (pastel-colored) (Oooh. Meh, meh meh!)
•The National Confectioners Association estimates that 20 million pounds of candy corn are sold annually. (Come on . . . I only account for half of that.)
•The top seller of candy corn, Brach's (The best, as far as I'm concerned)
, sells enough candy corn each year to circle the earth 4.25 times if the kernels were laid end to end. (Follow the yellow brick road to Oz!)
•Though most candy corn is purchased at Halloween, the confection is available year-round. (I want to know WHERE!)

I've never seen nor tasted the below concoctions, but I thought they were fun anyway. I'll reserve judgement until I've sampled . . . anyone can send these to me if you find them. :-)

So yes, we are (I am?) obsessed. I guess it's lucky for my waistline they're only around once a year, at least in our area.

But the other day my daughter (one of the obsessed) came across this on the internet. I think she needs to make one for her daughter and pass the obsession on to the next generation.

Scrumptious!

  1. love it! I have some at my desk as we speak. P.S. my co-workers and myself were also curious about the Hershey's Candy Corn Kisses. I was not a fan but I have to note that I'm not really a fan of white chocolate (which they are made of)...I'll let you be the judge ;)

  2. Soooooo I have had the caramel apple ones and they pretty much taste just like a caramel apple. I approve but in really small doses. As for that baby candy corn hybrid.... you guys disgust me.
