THAT'S What That Switch is For!

See that switch right there? Yeah, THAT one on the left!

That switch has puzzled us for 4 1/2 years. We moved into this house in May of 2005. In our coat closet in the entryway foyer there are those two switches. One of them turns on the light in the closet . . . duh! But the other one was kind of like the commercial where the guy keeps turning the light switch on and off while his wife tries to figure out what it goes to . . . and the neighbor's garage door keeps opening and closing, banging into her car.

Well, the other day . . . ZING! It hit me like lightening . . . But, the rest of the story first:

Every since we've lived here, Harvey has put up Christmas lights. When he put them up the first time, he noticed this light switch on the ceiling of the outside front porch.

"Well, for crying out loud! This must be where you plug in the Christmas lights! When the contractor built this house, he was really thinking!" Well, we plugged in the lights and . . . nothing. Hmm, guess the contractor never connected the electricity. Oh, well. Nice thought anyway.

Ever since then, we've plugged in our Christmas lights with a ghastly green extension cord to the plug down low on the porch wall.

Now comes my ZING moment. "Hey, Harvey! I bet this light switch is for the Christmas lights! You think?" Yep. Harvey put up the lights the other day . . . and click, click, click, click. YAY! How easy is this going to be?! What a thoughtful contractor! And a couple of slightly dense homeowners . . . :\

Oh well. It IS handy. And the lights on the house are BEAUTIFUL! (Well, to us anyway!) Bring on the family!

  3. I wish OUR contractor would have been that smart! We do have the outlet up high, but no switch. Oh well. I still haven't put up the lights...it's too cold to be outside. Maybe I can convince the kids that it would be really fun for them to do!
